What is Web 2.0?

  • Web 2.0 refers to the second generation of the internet – it has become more commonly known as SOCIAL MEDIA
  • For most of us Web 1.0 was ‘read-only’ where without specialised knowledge we would broadly read published content on websites. Web 2.0 services/tools don’t necessitate the need to have specialised knowledge in technology, in order to create websites or to participate (write) in other published websites. Web 2.0 is also described as the ‘read-write’ web.
  • Web 2.0 is about participation, collaboration, interactivity, communication, community-building, sharing, networking and creativity online.
  • Web 2.0 is about engaging in the activities described through using different websites and services which can include things such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, RSS, social bookmarking, tagging, social networking.
