Embed your PowerPoint slides in Blackboard
If you would like your students to see your PowerPoint slides on the page in Blackboard rather than having to download them, you can embed the slides. Students can then look through the slides without leaving the blackboard page. Your PowerPoint must be saved in OneDrive to enable embedding. Once a PowerPoint is saved in One Drive any updates you make will save automatically both in OneDrive and in the embedded version on Blackboard.
Access OneDrive
You can access One Drive a number of ways. One option is to use the link at the top of the DMU Connect page:
Upload your PowerPoint to OneDrive. Or, if it’s already saved in One Drive open the PowerPoint – it will open in Office 365.
Get the embed code
Once the PowerPoint is open in Office 365 go to ‘File’.
Select ‘Share’ and then ‘Embed’.
A preview of your embedded slides will be shown along with the ’embed code’. You can choose the size that your slides will display on the Blackboard page. Then you need to right click on the embed code and copy it.
Paste embed code into Blackboard
In Blackboard, go to ‘Build content’ and create an item or navigate to an existing item and select to edit it. From the item toolbar, select ‘View source’.
In the ‘Source code’ box, paste in the embed code that you copied from your PowerPoint. Click save on the bottom right.
You’ll now see your PowerPoint is displayed in the page. Click ‘Submit’ to save the page.
Your students will now be able to use the arrows at the bottom to go through the slides. They can also, download the file or open it in PowerPoint.
You can embed any Office 365 file in a Blackboard page including Word documents, Forms or Sways. Remember, any changes you make to the Office 365 file will be reflected in the version embedded into your Blackboard content item.
